"From Tumult to Rest"

Summary of sermon by Rev Friedel Stegen, 9 December 2012

2Ch 15:1  And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded:

2Ch 15:2  And he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.

If you seek Him, He will be found by you. Are you seeking God? Are you with the Lord or is your life contrary to the Lord’s way? If you do your own thing and want your own way all the time you are not putting God first in your life. You must put aside all that hinders your walk with the Lord. You should consider God’s way before making decisions and pray and seek Him. Such a person is totally dependent on God. If we are easily hurt and touchy and can’t be told anything this is a big problem. We push God aside because of things going against my way and interests. When we serve the true God we know great peace, joy, love, friendliness and Christlikeness in our lives.

2Chron 15: 5 When things go wrong in our lives we often say that satan is doing this but if we are not serving the true God, God himself goes against us and allows these tumults (see vs 5). God is speaking to us.

When Asa realised they had forsaken God he sought God with all his heart. Sometimes with something we can’t seem to get rid of in our lives we should the Lord what He is telling us?

v.7 "But you, take courage!"

Be strong, do not let your hands be weak. Never give up. God will be with you and give you the victory and attend to your every need. Asa took courage and removed all the idols, restored the altar of the Lord (where sacrifices were made to the Lord). Idols are those very important things in our lives. Will we do away with them today? Kill all that rebels against God, all the idols, thoughts and ideas.

Altars are for sacrifices. At Christmas time have we got thankfulness in our hearts for the great sacrifice God made in sending his only Son and for the sacrifice Jesus made in shedding his blood for us, at the altar which God erected at Calvary? Let His precious blood thoroughly cleanse you.

2Chron 15:15 "...and He was found by them, and the Lord gave them rest all around". God wants you to experience this blessed rest which He has prepared for you. Then you will know what it is to go from tumult to rest.
